Father is a small portrait painted of my Dad, Eyad Molaeb. My dad is one of the most important men in my life, and someone that has been a reoccurring theme in my art. To me, my Dad embodies the nurture, care and paternal connection that is taught within Arabic culture, and in a day and age where Arabic men are villainized, I wanted to honour and pay tribute to a man who I feel is one of the kindest and strongest people on this Earth. “Father” depicts a side profile of my Dad painted in the colours of the Lebanese flag, and was painted with the intention of honouring him, and giving back a little of what he’s given me.
I want to recenter the figure of the father and the position of an Arabic man as something to be honoured, held in memory, and humanized.
